Batik Lasem
Lasem is located 12 km east of the capital city of Rembang, Indonesia. The interesting thing in Lasem is ethnic cultural heritage of China with a collection of ancient houses in rows facing each other in all corners of the city. Each of these ancient houses fenced by high walls surrounding the main building made of brick with a thick gate of ancient teak wood.In this city there are also industrial centers of batik although not as famous as Solo, Jogja or Pekalongan. But the presence Batik Lasem is the pride of his own for the people of this fishing town. Batik-print Lasem typical production with chicken blood red color that supposedly can not be duplicated by batik from other regions. Another particularity of this Lasem Batik’s type, which is located on the combined influence of the society, local cultural community and the northern coast of Central Java, Solo and Yogyakarta Cultural Palace. Merchants from China who come to Lasem give effect to the batik pattern. And then many of these traders are turning to batik entrepreneurs in the city this Lasem.
The design of Batik Lasem is influenced by the culture of their ancestors, such as beliefs and legends. For example there are shades decorative Hong birds and animals legendary kilin or lion. Folklore like Sam Pek Eng Tey has been the design of Batik Lasem. Therefore Lasem batik was known as batik Encim.
